Ayurveda, a holistic medical system originating in India over 5,000 years ago, is regarded as one of the world’s oldest healing sciences. Rooted in the belief that health is a balance between body, mind, and spirit, Ayurveda is often described as a divine gift to humanity.

Classical Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita describe eight major branches of medicine, encompassing internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, toxicology, rejuvenation, aphrodisiac therapy, and ENT care. The ancient physician Sushruta, often called the “Father of Surgery,” detailed sophisticated surgical instruments and techniques centuries before modern medicine.

Ayurveda explains that the human body functions through three fundamental energies, or doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and seven primary tissues (dhatus). Disease arises when there is an imbalance among these elements. Treatment focuses on restoring equilibrium through a combination of herbal remedies, minerals, dietary regulation, detoxification, and lifestyle adjustments.
